Our ranches are located in the eastern slopes of the Sierra Madres in northwestern Chihuahua. The ranch is only about 250 miles southwest of El Paso, Texas; however the roads are two-lane and it takes most of the day to get to our ranches. All hunters must fly or drive into El Paso, Texas which is served by American Airlines and several other major carriers. For those who drive into El Paso, your vehicle can be left in the city during your stay with us. We provide ground transportation between the El Paso Airport Microtel and the ranch.

The map set forth below shows the approximate location of our hunt areas as they relate to El Paso and Chihuahua City.

An UMA is a Mexican wildlife management area comprised of privately owned land which is monitored by the government and managed by the land owner.  In order to obtain hunting licenses, outfitters and landowners are required to hire a biologist to study the UMA and make recommendations regarding the number and species of animals that should be harvested.  The report generated by the biologist is submitted to the appropriate Mexican wildlife agency for issuance of hunting tags. This program was implemented in 1995 and has opened some of the finest hunting areas in North America.

Please note that the only legal way to hunt big game in Mexico is with a registered outfitter operating under the UMA Game Management System. Ernesto Beall, the Owner of Ojo Caliente Outfitters, is a registered Mexican outfitter and all of his hunting ranches are registered under the UMA system. Be sure you know the game and gun laws when hunting in any foreign country.

Hunting Area: The breathtaking Sierra Madres are home to some of the most sought after trophies in North America; the Coues Deer and the Goulds Turkey. We hunt both species in the foothills and lower elevations of this mountain range. Photos of the areas we hunt can be viewed on this website.

The Coues Deer inhabits the famous Sierra Madres which are partially located in northwestern Chihuahua. These small whitetails commonly referred to as “the gray ghosts of the desert”, are found in semi-desert habitat consisting of scrub oak, pinon and juniper. This deer averages 110 lbs. and sports antlers with 12-17 inches of spread. Approximately 98% of the deer harvested on our ranches have qualified for the Safari Club record book, and 40% have qualified for Boone & Crockett. Photos of Coues Deer taken on our ranches can be viewed on this website.

The Goulds Turkey is found in the same habitat as the Coues Deer. These hearty birds are the largest of the subspecies weighing up to 30 lbs. and sporting a 12-inch beard. The average bird weighs 20-24 lbs. and carries an 8-10 inch beard. As turkey hunting becomes more popular in the USA, hunters are looking for a safe and comfortable way to complete their royal slam which includes the Goulds, Eastern, Merriams, Oceola and Rio Grande. The Goulds is not as wary as his brothers in the states because hunting pressure is limited, however we have learned the hard way that these birds show up with a new set of rules every year! Photos of Goulds Turkeys harvested on our ranches can be viewed on this website.
